Full Spectrum Light Therapy Boxes

Light Therapy Boxes that use full spectrum lighting have been used successfully for more than 40 years to treat the symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).  It has been determined by medical professionals that the pineal gland (located in the back of the brain) requires a certain intensity of light to send signals to the brain to tell the pineal gland to stop producing the hormone, serotonin.  Too much serotonin has been found to be one of the symptoms discovered in patients that suffer from the affects of SAD.

Scientists have known for many years that the human body requires a certain amount of exposure to natural daylight for it (the body) to perform efficiently.  Being deprived of natural daylight for an extended period of time  causes some individuals to begin to experience some of the symptoms associated with SAD.  This malady (SAD) has been designated by the American Psychiatric Association to be a mental disorder that affects millions of people when the days are shorter (in winter) or when they are under-exposed to natural daylight.

One of the most informative resources available to people who suffer from SAD (or think they do) is the book, "Winter Blues", authored by Dr. Norman E. Rosenthal, MD who was one of the early pioneers in Photo Therapy Research.  Dr. Rosenthal has studied the effects of full spectrum lights for more than 40 years and is considered one of the world's foremost authorities on the benefits of full spectrum lights. He has determined after years of research that full spectrum lights make a huge difference in one's environment.

10,000 Lux is the amount of full spectrum light that has proven to be successful in the treatment of SAD.  (as measured by Extech LuxMeter Model #407026) A high quality light box must be equipped with full spectrum light as its light source.  These full spectrum lights normally range in kelvin (K)  temperature from 5000K up to 6500K.  Most medical people who recommend the use of a full spectrum light box tend to suggest that a patient sit for at least 30 minutes a day in front of the light box (approximately 30" from the box).  Early morning (just after arising from bed) seems to be the best time for this type of photo therapy.  You should consult with your physician before investing in a full spectrum light box.

The Sun Box® Company located in Maryland, USA, manufacturers several different models of Full Spectrum Light Boxes and other photo therapy products that simulate natural daylight.  Woman's Day Magazine, 60 Minutes and other organizations have endorsed full spectrum light boxes manufactured by The Sun Box Company.  M&M Lighting Co. has been distributing their full spectrum light boxes for more than 10 years.  If you want to dramatically reduce your SAD symptoms, use our full spectrum lights and full spectrum light boxes.
